FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid
This course complies with the requirements of Chapter 2, Part 7 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations (S.I. No 299 of 2007) concerning First Aid at Work. (Ref: Health & Safety Authority, Guidelines on First Aid at places of Work 2008)
Course Duration: 3 days
Participants who have completed this course will be able to:
- Organise and co-ordinate first aid activities in the workplace
- Respond to life threatening emergencies and provide appropriate treatment
- Treat minor injuries/conditions which do not require the assistance of a doctor or nurse
Course content:
- Module 1: First Aid in the Workplace
- Module 2: Patient Assessment
- Module 3: Respiratory Emergencies
- Module 4: Cardiac First Response (including Defibrillation & Administration of Aspirin)
- Module 5: Wounds & Bleeding
- Module 6: Altered Level of Consciousness
- Module 7: Musculoskeletal Injuries
- Module 8: Burns/Scalds Chemicals & Electric Shock
Examination:
Written, Oral and Practical examination conducted by a FETAC approved external
assessor. Assessment held on the afternoon of day 3.
Course Validation:
The course is structured in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Health & Safety Authority and fulfils current Health & Safety Legislation requirements. A FETAC Level 5 OFA certificate, valid for 2 years, will be issued to participants who successfully complete the post course assessment.
